What exactly is Shingles? Shingles outbreaks can last between 3-5 weeks with blisters healing between 7-10 days. However, sometimes there’s severe pain that can last for months or even years after the outbreak clears up! This pain is referred to as postherpetic neuralgia, or PHN, and the symptoms can be debilitating. 1 in 3 Americans will get shingles at least once in their lifetime with the risk increasing after age 50. Anywhere between 10 & 20% of cases will experience PHN.
